NEW YORK, Sept 21 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic on Tuesday held separate talks in New York with counterparts from Belgium, Kenya, Costa Rica, Latvia, and Iran, discussing Croatia's relations with the said countries.
Granic is in New York attending the 54th General Assembly of the United Nations. The foreign ministers of Iran and Costa Rica, Kamal Harazi and Robert Rojas Lopez, supported Croatia's aspiration to enter the UN Economic and Social Council. Granic and Harazi held separate talks on possibilities of expanding Croatian-Iranian economic cooperation to which, they agreed, the establishment of a joint economic cooperation commission would greatly contribute. Both ministers exchanged information on internal processes in Croatia and Iran, concluding that in both countries politics have a considerable effect on the current pre-electoral period. United Nations.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Costa Rica, Kamal Harazi and
Robert Rojas Lopez, supported Croatia's aspiration to enter the UN
Economic and Social Council.
Granic and Harazi held separate talks on possibilities of expanding
Croatian-Iranian economic cooperation to which, they agreed, the
establishment of a joint economic cooperation commission would
greatly contribute.
Both ministers exchanged information on internal processes in
Croatia and Iran, concluding that in both countries politics have a
considerable effect on the current pre-electoral period.
Croatia and Costa Rica have concluded two initial agreements, on
scientific and technical cooperation, and on the revocation of
visas for the bearers of diplomatic and official passports.
Granic and Latvian Foreign Minister Indulis Berzins agreed the
achievements of every country aspiring to integration with
European and transatlantic institutions should be evaluated on an
individual basis, and not as part of regional packages.
The two ministers concluded it was necessary to intensify Croatian-
Costa Rican dialogue, and agreed on the signing of an agreement on
scientific and cultural cooperation.
Croatia's Granic and Belgian counterpart Louis Michel discussed
the standpoints of the new Brussels government.
During talks with Kenyan Foreign Minister Bonay Godan, Granic
agreed the two countries should establish diplomatic relations.
On Wednesday, the Croatian delegation is expected to meet United
States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at a conference of
Stability Pact for Southeast Europe signatory countries.
Talks with the U.S. administration on Croatia's cooperation with
The Hague Tribunal, the further development of democracy, and the
impending parliamentary elections are expected on Thursday, when
Minister Granic should meet special U.S. envoy James Dobbins.
On Wednesday, Granic will meet counterparts from Greece, Italy,
Macedonia, and Spain.
