the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Vladimir Seks, told
reporters in Zagreb on Monday.#L#
Seks spoke to the press after talks with the head of the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Bernard
Poncet.
The talks tackled the impending elections, Poncet told the press,
adding the talks with Seks were part of a regular series he was
holding not only with the Croatian government, but with some
political parties as well.
Poncet reacquainted Seks with the demands the international
community has of Croatia in order to ensure the holding of free,
fair, and democratic elections.
The OSCE official said he believes the ruling HDZ, the government,
and other Croatian parties have a clear perception of what the
international community believes must be done to ensure free and
fair elections.
Poncet added he was satisfied with the explanations provided by
Seks.
Responding to reporters' questions about the passing of a new
Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) Law or the formulation of HRT's
rules of behaviour at the elections, Seks said it should be expected
in late October or early November.
Parliament should "pass precise and clear rules which will make
sure that all political parties participating in the elections be
given equal representation on national radio and television, so as
to eliminate any remark about the favouritism of the ruling party or
anybody else," said Seks.
