The symposium with an emphasis put on the topic "Challenges for
Christians and Moslems in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina" is
taking place in the seminary of the Catholic Theology.
It is gathering about 100 participants from Croatia and other
countries.
Culej said the existence of three monotheistic religions in this
area(Christianity, Judaism and Islam) was a sufficient reason for
organising such an gathering.
He added that peace in the Continent considerably depended o the
stabilisation of relations in this part of the southeastern Europe
and that it had been proved by events in the past decade.
The purpose of the symposium is to show that it is possible to
achieve peace and coexistence in Europe by dialogue, particularly
by inter-religious dialogue, the Bishop added.
On behalf of Croatia's Government, European Integration Minister
Ljerka Mintas-Hodak addressed the participants saying that
religious communities are asked to build solidarity and
coexistence among people.
Present at the opening were Apostolic Nuncio to Zagreb, Giulio
Einaudi, Pope's envoy for relations with Islam, Msgr. Khaled
Akasheh, an envoy of Zagreb Archbishop, his assistant Josip
Mrzljak, and Islamic and Jewish dignitaries.
The symposium will also take place in th Islamic Centre.
