ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - The total exchange between Croatia and
Ireland, which amounted to about US$80 million in 1998, does not
meet potentials and possibilities of the two countries' economies,
Croatian Economy Minister Nenad Porges and Irish Trade, Business
and Employment Minister Tom Kitt assessed after the talks on
Friday.
The two ministers agreed that the talks were successful, adding
that this was the beginning of better cooperation of the two
ministries.
According to Porges, the two ministers exchanged information on
possibilities of the promotion of export and foreign investments
and other models which demonstrated efficiency in Ireland.
Second part of the talks referred to the bilateral relations which
were politically good, Porges said. Economic relations between
Croatia and Ireland have been partially established by existing
bilateral agreements on economic cooperation, the promotion and
protection of investments and several other agreements.
According to the Croatian Economy Minister, some Irish companies
are already participating in the reconstruction of the Croatian
financial sector, such as the Bank of Ireland which participated in
the reconstruction of the Privredna Banka.
Porges and Kitt believe there are many fields in which the two
countries could exchange knowledge and experiences.
According to Kitt, Ireland already established fields with great
possibilities of cooperation, such as tourism, power supply,
communications, as well as the development and management of real
estate.
