ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - The Party of Democratic Action of Croatia (SDAH) on Thursday announced that it would file a complaint with the Council of Europe Human Rights Court if Bosniaks living in Croatia were not granted the status of a
national minority and the right to a separate electoral unit. "We shall internationalise our problem", SDAH political secretary Faris Nanic said at a news conference in Zagreb. Apart from the complaint to the Strasbourg court, Nanic announced that the SDAH could boycott the elections and call on Croatian Bosniaks to do the same should the authorities fail to meet their requests which they believed were completely justified. ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - The Party of Democratic Action of Croatia
(SDAH) on Thursday announced that it would file a complaint with the
Council of Europe Human Rights Court if Bosniaks living in Croatia
were not granted the status of a national minority and the right to a
separate electoral unit.
"We shall internationalise our problem", SDAH political secretary
Faris Nanic said at a news conference in Zagreb.
Apart from the complaint to the Strasbourg court, Nanic announced
that the SDAH could boycott the elections and call on Croatian
Bosniaks to do the same should the authorities fail to meet their
requests which they believed were completely justified.
SDAH president Semso Tankovic negatively assessed the Croatian
Democratic Union's (HDZ) election bill. The bill still treats the
Bosniaks as if they were no minority and in the last census they were
the second largest minority, right after the Serbs, Tankovic said.
According to the last census, there were 45,000 Bosniaks in
Croatia, which made one per cent of Croatia's population, Tankovic
said, adding he supposed the number was currently significantly
higher.
