The contamination of vegetable by Escherichia coli in Europe this spring had market consequences, as a result of which the demand for vegetables was reduced and consequently their prices went down also in Croatia.
Minister Cobankovic said after the meeting that data on damage in Croatia should be determined before professional producers of vegetables in Croatia were compensated.
Representatives of the agriculture ministry and producers will be engaged in a task force to analyse data and define models for compensation.
The head of the Union of Croatian Vegetable Growers' Associations (ZUHP), Zdravko Zagorec, expressed satisfaction with today's meeting.
He said that direct damage caused the E.coli scandal in western Europe to Croatian producers ranged between 50-70 million kuna.
According to him, there are 40,000 vegetable growers in Croatia, and 20-30% of them are professional producers.
