HOTEL MANAGEMENT ON DIFFICULT SITUATION IN CROATIAN TOURISM

UMAG, 30 July (Hina) - The situation in the Croatian Tourism is more than alarming, it was assessed during the session of the Administration Board Committee of the Croatian Hotel and Management Association (HUH) held in the northern Adriatic town of Umag on Friday. It was also pointed to acute financial problems in hotel management. According to the HUH president, Ivan Soric, a decision on lower Value Added Tax for tourism should be passed as soon as possible. The HUH demanded that the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and development (HBOR) write off loans taken by hotel management. They also demanded business banks to reschedule loans. It was also said during the session that this years poor tourist season was not caused only by the Kosovo crisis, but also by lack of understanding of the Croatian Government for tourism problems. The HUH officials concluded that this year's tourists season was already lost and hotel management would barely survive the winter. The HUH also demanded the Croatian Tourism Ministry to finally take the right steps in the macroeconomic policy to enable the hotel management to join the preparations for the tourists season in the year 2000.
