During today's meeting with members of the Bosnian Presidency and
the Council of Ministers, held upon his arrival in the Bosnian
capital, Clinton said the very fact that the summit was being held
in Sarajevo spoke enough of the progress in implementing the Dayton
agreement.
During the open part of today's meeting, Clinton said the United
States and himself, together with the European Union, would
continue supporting the process of strengthening peace as well as
further stabilisation.
Commenting on the situation in Kosovo, the US president said
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright could see during her visit to
the province yesterday that 'things are moving in the right
direction', although many things remained to be done.
Clinton commended the role played by general Wesley Clark, a former
commander of NATO for Europe, in the resolution of the Kosovo
crisis.
He dismissed speculations about the reasons for Clark's leaving his
office, stressing Clark had played one of the most important roles
in the establishment of peace both in Kosovo and Bosnia-
Herzegovina.
