RIJEKA, July 19 (Hina) - Last Friday's protest of Croatian fishermen is a clear message to the Government that the situation in the fishery is difficult and that fishermen are living on the brink of poverty, a vice-president of the
Croatian Farmers' Association (HSS), fisherman Damir Badzek, said at a news conference in Rijeka on Monday. Badzek warned of the continually decreasing quantity of fish in the Adriatic, the poor maintenance of fishing boats, too high expenses, especially of fuel oil, the lack of a strategy of development, and many other problems fishermen are faced with. The president of the fishery section with the Rijeka Chamber of Crafts, Slavko Cvjetkovic, said it was time for fishermen to consider whether they are better represented by the Chamber or by the Croatian Farmers' Association.(hina) rml
