239,746 TOURISTS VACATIONING IN CROATIA

ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - According to data released on Monday by the Croatian Board of Tourism Head Office, a total of 239,746 tourists are spending their summer holidays in Croatia, which is 13.2 percent less than in the same period in 1998. Foreign tourists are 196,374, or 14 percent less than last year's early July, while domestic tourists are 43,372, a drop of eight percent. Istra County, on Croatia's largest peninsula, in the northern Adriatic, is registering the highest number of tourists, with a total of 95,054, a 14.3 percent drop when compared to last year. Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, also in Croatia's northern Adriatic, follows, with 61,466 tourists, 11.2 percent less than last year, while Split-Dalmatia County, the central-southern coastal area, has 32,196 tourists, 14.9 percent less than in the same period in 1998. The highest number of foreign tourists, 90,606, are spending their holidays in Istra County, while domestic tourists are the most numerous, 12,727, in Zadar County, a 0.2 percent increase in comparison to last year.
