ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - In the last fifteen days, foreign tourists
showed greater interest in spending holidays in Croatia, so that a
fall in the entire turnover in tourism will not be so big as it was
predicted during the Kosovo crisis.
At the beginning of NATO's attacks against Yugoslavia
(Serbia/Montenegro), according to the speed of cancellation of the
arrangements for foreigners' stay in Croatia, the Croatian
National Tourist Board (HTZ) anticipated that this year's tourist
turnover would be less by half than the turnover in 1998.
The organised arrangements from the German and Austrian markets are
likely to decrease by 20 to 30 percent this year, whereas the
interest of individual guests seems to be reviving.
Organised visits of British and Dutch tourists may be increasing,
while the packages for organised summer holidays for the French on
the Croatian coast are likely to be halved as charter flights have
been cancelled. Croatia expects an increase in the interest of
individual guests from these countries.
Last May, the Belgian air company Jetair resumed its programme for
Dubrovnik, and from the mid July to the mid October it will organise
charter flights from Brussels to this Croatian resort.
The organised tourist visits of Italian guests can be cut by up to 20
percent versus last year, but the individual turnover might be at a
level of 1998.
The organised arrival of Czech tourists is likely to fall by 20 to 30
percent, whereas the sales of Croatian tourists arrangements have
had the "revival" on the Slovakian market recently, but it is still
just 50 percent of the last year's results.
In respect of Hungarian tourists, the turnover in the organised
arrangements is to be at the level of last year's results or even
better, while an increase is certain in the interest of individual
guests.
