BOL, July 3 (Hina) - A panel on Croatia's economic prospects was
organised by the Croatian government in Bol on Brac island on
Saturday for representatives of European banks, media, and
businessmen.
Finance Minister Borislav Skegro acquainted the participants with
a plan on the privatisation of Croatia's public companies.
The first to be privatised is Croatian Telecommunications, to be
followed by insurance company Croatia Osiguranje, Privredna Banka
Zagreb and Splitska banks, power utility company Hrvatska
Elektroprivreda, and oil company INA.
Preliminary activities have already begun, Skegro said, adding
Croatia's expectations were high, and include fresh money, fresh
ideas, and new technology.
Foreign businessmen and bankers were especially interested in the
privatisation of Croatian Telecommunications.
Answering questions, the heads of the company's management and
advisory boards, Ivica Mudrinic and Ivan Mijatovic, said 25 percent
of the company's shares will be sold to a strategic partner, whose
identity will be disclosed in September. In competition are
telecommunications companies from Germany and Austria, Sweden's
Telija, and Norway's Telenor.
The foreign participants in the panel expressed satisfaction with
the way privatisation in Croatia had been started. Representatives
of the government called on them to invest, without fear, in all
sectors of Croatian economy.
