SARAJEVO, June 30 (Hina) - The international High Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carlos Westendorp, on Wednesday prolonged the deadline for submitting claims for the return of socially-owned flats in Drvar, a town in

A statement issued by Westendorp's office in Sarajevo said the decision had been made in order to protect the rights of refugees who wish to return to Drvar and who had not been able to submit their claims because the office for housing issues in Drvar had not functioned in a satisfactory manner. SARAJEVO, June 30 (Hina) - The international High Representative in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carlos Westendorp, on Wednesday prolonged the
deadline for submitting claims for the return of socially-owned
flats in Drvar, a town in north-western Bosnia.
A statement issued by Westendorp's office in Sarajevo said the
decision had been made in order to protect the rights of refugees
who wish to return to Drvar and who had not been able to submit their
claims because the office for housing issues in Drvar had not
functioned in a satisfactory manner.
Following the signing of the Dayton agreement, the town, which
before the war had a majority Serb population, was included into a
majority Croat canton in the Croat-Muslim Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina. Most of the Serb refugees, who left the town during war
operations in the summer of 1995, have expressed a wish to return.
The deadline for submitting claims for the return of socially-owned
flats in the Federation is July 4, but in Drvar it will be possible
to submit such applications after this date as well.
Today's decision of the High Representative will remain in force
until his special envoy assesses whether the Drvar office for
housing issues has started functioning in an appropriate manner.
