ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - The Opposition Six at Tuesday's session of the Croatian National Parliament House of Representatives called on MPs of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to vote for the establishment of a commission of

ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - The Opposition Six at Tuesday's session of
the Croatian National Parliament House of Representatives called
on MPs of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) to vote for the
establishment of a commission of inquiry which would investigate
claims that intelligence and security services were "flagrantly"
violating the Constitution and laws, and that they were out of
control of the public.
"If nothing else, there is justifiable suspicion that a part of the
secret services were used in a way they should not have been," Luka
Trconic said, speaking on behalf of the Opposition Six MPs.
The session focused on the intelligence and security system and the
request of the Opposition Six for a commission of inquiry be
established to determine illegal influences on the work of such
services and their possible anti-constitutional work.
Trconic said a part of the secret services had been used to cover up
political and financial scandals.
"Justified suspicion" is based on interviews given by senior state
and HDZ officials, documents by intelligence services published in
the "Nacional" weekly pertaining to the finals of the national
soccer championship, legally unjustified telephone tapping,
searches of private flats and editorial offices, and the recent
short apprehension of the former director of the Croatian
Intelligence Service (HIS).
"The issue is the obvious violation of the Constitution, that is,
the violation of the right to privacy and individual freedoms,
which is in contrast to the democratic development and progress of
Croatia," Trconic said.
"A crackdown has begun on all those who are warning about the
misuse, but the essence of the problem is not being dealt with. this
must be stopped. The Parliament must take matters into its hands and
find out the truth," Trconic said.
As some of the press mentions Ivic Pasalic as one of the persons
involved in most of the affairs, Trconic held it would be of use for
the presidential adviser for the truth to be revealed.
"Whether Pasalic is amnestied or not, the truth shall be revealed,"
Trconic said.
