ZAGREB, June 27 (Hina) - The final election draft of the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) will support special parliamentary
representation of the Croatian Diaspora, HDZ main secretary Drago
Krpina said at a meeting between party officials and
representatives of the HDZ coordination from abroad on Sunday.
Present at the meeting, among other participants, were Vladimir
Seks, Jure Radic, Ivo Sanader and Ante Beljo.
Representation of Croatian emigrants in the Sabor will depend on
their turnout at the upcoming elections for the House of
Representatives, Krpina said. According to him, the main reason for
the low turnout of emigrants at the last elections was the fact that
many of them could not come to Croatia. That is why he believed the
emigrants' proposal that they be allowed to participate in a postal
vote was sensible.
Asked why the Ministry of Return and Immigration had been
abolished, Krpina said it had not been abolished but rather merged
with the Ministry of Development and Reconstruction, which would
help facilitate the resolution of the emigrants' problems.
Representatives of Croatian emigrants said problems in the banking
system were one of the main obstacles to their return.
We will persevere in establishing where the money from banks had
gone, Krpina said, adding that tax payers who participated in the
rehabilitation of banks had the right to know where the money from
those banks had gone.
