Protection from Public Violence in Zagreb. The Committee is to use its political and moral authority to prevent violence from spreading in Croatia's public life. The establishment of the Committee had been initiated at a meeting held by the Association of Workers' Unions of Croatia (URSH) in Zagreb last week. The Committee elected a secretariat which includes Boris Kunst (URSH), Nenad Klapcic (Istrian Democratic Assembly, IDS), Dragutin Palasek (Association of Social Democrats of Croatia, ASH), Martin Spegelj (Croatian People's Party, HNS), Vinko Filipovic ("Preporod" Union), and Vjekoslav Magas (Croatian Helsinki Committee, HHO). parties, unions and civic associations, prompted by the increase of
politically-motivated verbal and physical violence, on Friday
formed a Committee for the Protection from Public Violence in
Zagreb.
The Committee is to use its political and moral authority to prevent
violence from spreading in Croatia's public life.
The establishment of the Committee had been initiated at a meeting
held by the Association of Workers' Unions of Croatia (URSH) in
Zagreb last week.
The Committee elected a secretariat which includes Boris Kunst
(URSH), Nenad Klapcic (Istrian Democratic Assembly, IDS), Dragutin
Palasek (Association of Social Democrats of Croatia, ASH), Martin
Spegelj (Croatian People's Party, HNS), Vinko Filipovic
("Preporod" Union), and Vjekoslav Magas (Croatian Helsinki
Committee, HHO).
Stjepo Martinovic (URSH) was elected the Committee's secretary.
The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) representative did not come to
today's constituent session due to a busy schedule.
The Committee announced that next week it would send letters to the
highest state officials protesting against the rise of political
violence and request that investigations into the assault on union
member Ivan Tolic and the president of the Socialist Labour Party
(SRP), Stipe Suvar, be completed as soon as possible.
