SPLIT SPLIT, June 12 (Hina) - The construction of a new tanker for the transport of oil and chemical substances, worth US$31.5 million and to be delivered to Maltese company Southseas Shipping Limited this November, was launched in
the southern port of Split on Saturday. The tanker is the first of two "oil product chemical" tankers whose dead-weight amounts to 45,000 tonnes. The ship is 128m long, 32m wide, and will reach a maximum speed of 15 knots. At the launching, the director of Split shipyard Brodosplit, Srecko Kurtovic, reminded those attending of the recession in domestic as well as in world-wide shipbuilding and the shipping industry in general.
