PLOCE TO BOSNIA BY RAIL PLOCE, June 12 (Hina) - Three hundred thousand tonnes of goods were transported via railway from the southern Croatian port of Ploce to neighbouring Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is 50 percent more than the year
before. The transport of alumina, petroleum coke, aluminium, and wheat registered a significant increase, while Ploce Harbour has become one of the biggest business partners of Mostar's aluminium factory. Other major business partners are the iron factory from Zenica, BH, and Croatia's cement manufacturer "Dalmacijacement". It is expected railroad transport between Croatia and BH will this year also grow as a result of reinstating transport to Ploce Harbour through Zenica, Tuzla, Doboj, Sarajevo, and Mostar Passenger transport is also expected to increase. In the pre-war tourist season, some 15,000 passengers a day would pass through the Ploce railway station.

According to an agreement reached by the management boards of
Croatia's and Bosnia's Railways, the first regular international
train between Ploce and Sarajevo will be introduced on July 1.
Nedjeljko Martic, head of the Ploce-based Croatian Railways field
office, said nobody in Ploce doubted the success of the
international transport project.
