SEKS TO GIVE AN ELECTORAL SYSTEM BILL TO OPPOSITION ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The chief negotiator of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Vladimir Seks, on Tuesday or Wednesday, will hand over to the Opposition Six a draft bill on the electoral system, made by the HDZ in line with the recent agreement reached by the HDZ and opposition parties. In case Seks manages to finish the text of a draft bill on constituencies, he will also give that document to the Opposition Six - the HSLS (Croatian Social and Liberal Party), the LS (Liberal Party), the HNS (Croatian People's Party), the HSS (Croatian Peasants' Party, the SDP (Social and Democratic Party) and the IDS (Istrian Democratic Alliance). Luka Trconic, the co-ordinator of the Opposition Six, on Monday gave this information which Seks confirmed. Trconic said Seks had promised to offer solutions which would not be out of harmony with the agreement which they had made by a consensus. By the end of this week the Opposition Six should consider the HDZ proposal and continue the work next Monday. If there are no big problems and differences relating to certain issues, it is possible that the draft bill be included into the parliamentary procedure next week. An expert working group, consisting of three representatives of each the HDZ and the Opposition Six, is to begin working on amendments to the Law on the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) in the middle of the coming week as well. I hope that in the concrete elaboration of the agreement the HDZ will not propose unacceptable solutions which may endanger principles from our recent agreement on basic elements of the electoral legislation, Trconic said on Monday.
