THE HAGUE, May 19 (Hina) - The defence and prosecution teams in the
Aleksovski case formally filed appeal motions to the decision of
the trial chamber, the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said in a statement Wednesday.
The prosecution filed the motion on Wednesday, and Zlatko
Aleksovski's defence team did so on May 17, the Tribunal's
spokesman, Jim Landale, said.
Following a written explanation for the trial chamber's decision
which was made in June, both sides will file appeals to the decision
and the sentence.
Former warned of the Kaonik prison, Zlatko Aleksovski, was at the
beginning of the month sentenced to two and a half years in prison
for the maltreatment of Moslem prisoners in the camp in the first
half of 1993. He was found not guilty on two counts, for the
violation of Geneva conventions, because the prosecution failed to
prove that there had been conflict among peoples in central
Bosnia.
Considering the fact Aleksovski had spent almost three years in
detention, the trial chamber released him immediately.
The prosecution requested a ten-year prison sentence.
