THE HAGUE, May 7 (Hina) - Zlatko Aleksovski, the former commander of a prison in Kaonik, was set free on Friday after almost three years in detention at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The
Hague. "After I was deprived of freedom for three years - How do I feel? I am happy and I am returning back to our beautiful homeland tomorrow," Aleksovski told Hina. The ICTY trial chamber on Friday sentenced Aleksovski to two and a half years in prison for the violation of war rights and customs. The chamber ordered Aleksovski be released as he had already spent two years and 11 months in custody. Aleksovski was found guilty of maltreating prisoners in the Kaonik military prison in 1993 and for failing to prevent his subordinates to do the same.(hina) lml
