ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Monday
held talks with the President of the Croatian Social Liberal Party
(HSLS), Drazen Budisa, and the leader of the HSLS bench at the
Croatian National Sabor, Djurdja Adlesic, on the electoral model.
Also present at the talks was the leader of the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) bench at the Sabor, Vladimir Seks.
After the talks, Budisa said that he had the impression they had
come closer to a solution and that a consensus could be soon reached
on the fundamental problem which encumbered the relations between
opposition parties and the Croatian Democratic Party, i.e. the
representatives of the Croatian Diaspora at the Sabor.
The talks were very constructive, said Seks adding that the HSLS
President, Drazen Budisa, had put forth a proposal how Croatian
nationals with no permanent residence in Croatia might be
represented at the Sabor.
The HDZ will consider the proposal and try to find a solution which
would enable all Croatian citizen with no permanent residence in
Croatia to have at the same time the right to vote and the right to be
elected.
Budisa said that lists of candidates would also include
representatives of Croatian nationals outside of Croatia, who
would have the same status as other candidates. Depending on the
percentage of votes for candidates from the Diaspora, parties would
propose a certain number of emigrant representatives at the
Croatian National Sabor, Budisa added.
Budisa said that President Tudjman assessed the proposal as very
positive. According to him, the President said the Sabor could
include six representatives of the Croatian Diaspora.
Seks stressed that a consensus within Croatia should be achieved on
the electoral law, without interference of factors outside
Croatia.
