RIJEKA SHIPYARD ENDS 1998 BUSINESS YEAR SUCCESSFULLY RIJEKA, May 3 (Hina) - Viktor Lenac's entire earnings in 1998 totalled US$49.43 million, with a net profit of US$1.38 million, the director of the shipyard in Croatia's northern
Adriatic port of Rijeka, Damir Vrhovnik, told reporters on Monday. The results are satisfactory since they were achieved in very difficult business conditions of shipping industry recession, he said. After a ten-year absence, Viktor Lenac last year resumed its position on the market of ship alterations and extensions. Due to a higher war risk brought on by the current Kosovo crisis, the Rijeka shipyard lost an already contracted deal with a British-Dutch consignee for works worth US$12.5 million which, thus Vrhovnik, accounts for 20 percent of the annual realisation. The shipyard will try to make up for the loss via minor alterations and repairs, Vrhovnik concluded.(hina) ha jn
