ZAGREB, April 23 (Hina) - As of Monday, the situation in the
Croatian newspaper distribution company "Tisak" should normalise,
as a consortium of six Croatian banks will designate about US$1.3
million for employees' salaries.
The remainder of the agreed US$4 million will be designated
according to business priorities, and a guarantee will arrive on
the distribution of tobacco products of the Rovinj tobacco company,
president of the management board of the Hrvatska Postanska Bank,
one of the six banks, Ljerka Ercegovic, said.
The banks and the Croatian Government signed an agreement on Friday
on the take-over by banks of the Tisak company which was in
straits.
Tisak employees continued a strike began on Wednesday because the
Government did not implement its decision on rehabilitating the
company. Tisak employees closed all of their 2,500 news-stands, and
blocked with trucks printer Hrvatska Tiskara, which prints several
daily papers. Due to the inability of being distributed and sold,
four of Croatia's highest circulation daily papers were not
printed, while others could not be purchased in most of the
country.
Ercegovic holds that now have been created conditions for the
employees to stop the strike and begin working.
Matesa held talks with representatives of six banks on Friday. The
talks were completed by the Privredna Bank Zagreb, Hrvatska
Postanska Bank, Splitska Bank and Istarska Bank, as well as the
State Agency for Rehabilitation and Restructuring of Banks, on
behalf of the Dubrovacka Bank, signing an agreement with the
Government on the take-over of the distribution company and
ensuring funds for its continued business.
