ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) - A book, William Perry - Croatia's Friend,
was presented to the Croatian public in Zagreb Wednesday.
The book was published by the Croatian Defence Ministry as a
reminder of William Perry's visit to Croatia in September 1998.
Perry is a professor at the Stanford University and a former United
States Defence Secretary.
The book of 51 pages and 59 photographs includes Perry's lecture on
a security strategy for the 21st century, held at the Institute for
Security and Defence Studies during his visit to Croatia's capital.
Perry will address the same issue at the 50th anniversary of NATO.
Those who had the honour and an opportunity to listen to the lecture
of the author of the new American security strategy, will
understand why NATO had intervened in Kosovo - the reason (for the
intervention) is the danger that small, regional conflicts which
last too long, may become a threat to the global security, said the
Croatian Deputy Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Kresimir
Cosic.
Cosic said the book was a nice example of how to promote the Croatian
tourism, and Croatia's reputation with the help of world's well-
respected persons.
According to Cosic, Croatian-American relations are being
intensified. He expressed hope Croatia would soon be admitted to
the Partnership for Peace.
The book contains supplements and photos of Perry's visit to
Croatia, including those from a ceremony at which Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman presented Perry with one of Croatia's
highest state awards, the Grand Order of King Zvonimir, and a
ceremony at which Perry was awarded the honorary doctorate at the
University of Zagreb.
Also present at the book's promotion were members of the Zagreb
University Academy Association and representatives of the Defence
and Science Ministries.
