ANTIN, April 21 (Hina) - A mass grave was discovered in the eastern Croatian village of Antin, near Vinkovci, from which five victims of Serb aggression have been exhumed on Wednesday. Head of the Croatian Government Commission for
Missing and Detained Persons, Ivan Grujic, said it was as yet unknown how many victims the grave contains. The mass grave is located in what used to be a fish pond, so three-metres deep water and mud are aggravating the efforts of forensic teams, Grujic said. This is the 11th mass grave discovered since the beginning of the exhumation processes in areas that had been occupied by Serb forces during the aggression on Croatia. ANTIN, April 21 (Hina) - A mass grave was discovered in the eastern
Croatian village of Antin, near Vinkovci, from which five victims
of Serb aggression have been exhumed on Wednesday.
Head of the Croatian Government Commission for Missing and Detained
Persons, Ivan Grujic, said it was as yet unknown how many victims
the grave contains.
The mass grave is located in what used to be a fish pond, so three-
metres deep water and mud are aggravating the efforts of forensic
teams, Grujic said.
This is the 11th mass grave discovered since the beginning of the
exhumation processes in areas that had been occupied by Serb forces
during the aggression on Croatia.
Grujic said he still could not confirm whether the grave contained
the residents of Antin, but it did contain the remains of mostly
civilians of middle and elderly age.
"We know that 30 people from the village are registered missing. It
is probable that the remains of some of them are in this grave,"
Grujic said.
Besides the exhumations in Antin, ongoing are trial excavations in
several other places in the two eastern Croatian counties -- the
Vukovar-Srijem County and the Osijek-Baranja County.
The Government Commission has information about the existence of a
mass grave in the neighbouring village, Tordinci, which has,
allegedly been devastated. A trial excavation will also take place
on this location. According to information at hand, more than 200
persons have been buried in this grave.
There are currently trial excavations of wells ongoing in Erdut, in
the Osijek-Baranja County, and in three of them, deep between 12 and
20 metres, only explosive devices were found.
One well in Baranja's Petrovo Selo, contained the remains of a
person who was identified at the Osijek Hospital pathology ward.
So far 2,910 victims of Serb aggression have been exhumed in
Croatia, and 1,751 persons are still searched for.
Some 20 exhumed people are currently being identified.
