SKOPJE, April 20 (Hina) - A moderate Kosovo politician, Ibrahim
Rugova, decided to remain in Kosovo where his roots are, said
Rugova's close associate, Adnan Merovci, in an interview to
Tuesday's issue of the Skopje-based daily "Fakti" in the Albanian
language.
"Mr. Rugova is in healthy and is in his house (in Pristina)." He
lives in his home with his wife, three children, a close relative
and his family. Since the end of last month, members of the Serbian
special units, armed to the teeth, have been in Rugova's house as
well, Merovci said.
He stressed that Rugova's political stands are firmer than ever and
therefore nobody should worry.
Merovci is the only associate of this Kosovo Albanian leader who
remained with him and his family in their house in Pristina all the
time. He suddenly appeared in Skopje two days ago in Skopje, the
Macedonian capital, where he held talks with the U.S. mediator for
Kosovo, Ambassador Christopher Hill, French Foreign Minister
Hubert Vedrine's special envoy Ambassador Jacques Huncinger and
U.S Under-secretary for humanitarian issues, Herald Koh.
Merovci confirmed meetings between Rugova and Yugoslav and Serbian
presidents, Slobodan Milosevic and Milan Milutinovic
respectively, saying that those meetings could neither be accepted
nor rejected.
Meeting were held for the daily Serbian propaganda and have no
essential importance, Merovci added.
He said he had come to Skopje to contact other associates of Rugova
who were forced to leave Kosovo.
Rugova has not given me any clear message for his associates, the
intention of my stay in Skopje is primarily to explain the state and
circumstance under which Rugova is in Pristina, Merovci said.
He added that foreign diplomats - Hill, Huncinger and Koh - with
whom he had held talks, abode by the request that Rugova be enabled
to travel abroad from Kosovo.
