OSIJEK, April 20 (Hina) - Courts will soon stop proceedings against Croatian displaced people for collecting the payment of the rental fees for using abandoned houses and flats in which they were accommodated with decisions of local
authorities while they were in exile. The president of Osijek County Court, Petar Kljajic, has already directed instructions to judges how to interpret Article 14 of the act on the status of displaced people and refugees in accordance with the interpretation given recently by the Croatian National Parliament (Sabor) that refugees and displaced people are not obliged to pay aforementioned rents. Josip Kompanovic, the head of the association of returnees to Osijek-Baranja County, informed displaced people of this at a meeting in Osijek yesterday. act on the status of displaced people and refugees in accordance

obliged to pay aforementioned rents.

The Supreme Court of Croatia is to decide on the reimbursement of
money which the displaced people have began paying to owners of the
flats and houses on the ground of previous court rulings.
Displaced people should individually submit requests for
instigating proceedings for the revocation of the previous rulings
relating to the rents.
Another representative of returnees, Tomo Povreslo, informed
displaced people that Croatian Prime Minister Matesa told them last
week that houses in Osijek-Baranja County, the reconstruction of
which had begun last year, would be finished until the end of May
The reconstruction of another 2,000 houses in this eastern Croatian
area is to start this June.
