Whether electronic media are responsible and democratic should be
the task of their internal councils or other independent bodies,
representing pluralist social interests, the Croatian
Journalists' Association (HND) said in a statement on the meeting.
The two-day conference, organised by the IFJ and HND, was held as
part of a European Union project, "Royamount process", which was
started by European governments as a form of assistance in the
stabilisation and development of good-neighbourly relations in
south-east Europe.
About 30 reporters from 20 countries, who attended the conference,
recommended a minimum of standards for increasing editorial
independence and fulfilling professional criteria. Those criteria
include the possibility of applying technological novelties,
financial stability and openness of the administration to the
public.
