PRIME MINISTER VISITS VUKOVAR-SRIJEM COUNTY

VINKOVCI, April 14 (Hina) - Notwithstanding the fact that the Croatian Government has so far invested more than US$428.5 million into the eastern Croatian Vukovar-Srijem County, the its economy is in great difficulties, Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa said during Wednesday's visit of a Government delegation to the county. "The bankruptcy of the Zupanjska Bank is not the bankruptcy of the economy which was in the past several years relied on it, as some people with shallow political motives like to say. With the bank's bankruptcy, and rescheduling of loans, we are trying to make these companies able to pay back their loans, Matesa said. During talks on the county's economy, participants agreed on a list of companies which have to be rehabilitated as soon as possible. Asked how much the Government would invest in the rehabilitation of these companies, Matesa said it was difficult to say, because the money was being set aside from various sources, but that they are significant investments. The Government would continue to support the construction of capital facilities connected with the construction of the Danube- Sava channel, the expansion of the gas supply network and utility infrastructure. The project for the recycling of construction materials in Vukovar has been granted, and this will stimulate the reconstruction of the town, Matesa said.
