ZAGREB, March 12 (Hina) - Premier Zlatko Matesa on Friday presented to the Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives the newly-appointed Minister of Science and Technology, Milena Zic-Fuchs, and Agriculture and Forestry
Minister Ivan Djurkic. Following a debate, the Lower House is to take a vote of confidence in the two ministers this afternoon. During consultations on the new science minister it was concluded that it had to be a person who would be able to contribute to the equal development of all segments and activities of the Science and Technology Ministry. A decisive factor in the nomination of Mrs Zic-Fuchs was her impressive professional and political career, from her work at the universities in Zagreb, Rijeka, Mostar and the United States to her activities as the president of the Science Ministry's Council for Publishing Activities and a member of the National Council for Science, Matesa said
ZAGREB, March 12 (Hina) - Premier Zlatko Matesa on Friday presented
to the Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives the
newly-appointed Minister of Science and Technology, Milena Zic-
Fuchs, and Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ivan Djurkic.
Following a debate, the Lower House is to take a vote of confidence
in the two ministers this afternoon.
During consultations on the new science minister it was concluded
that it had to be a person who would be able to contribute to the
equal development of all segments and activities of the Science and
Technology Ministry. A decisive factor in the nomination of Mrs
Zic-Fuchs was her impressive professional and political career,
from her work at the universities in Zagreb, Rijeka, Mostar and the
United States to her activities as the president of the Science
Ministry's Council for Publishing Activities and a member of the
National Council for Science, Matesa said adding that the
representation of women would have to be considered more in all
segments of authority.
Given his career and expert knowledge, the new Agriculture and
Forestry Minister Ivan Djurkic deserves to be entrusted with the
task of combining science and the needs of farmers. Djurkic
understands farmers well and is one of the leading experts in seed
production. The Government fully trusts him to be able to deal with
problems in agriculture, Matesa said.
The problem of village, farmers and agricultural incentives is one
of the most sensitive political issues, the Premier said adding
that all segments of authority wanted the situation in agriculture
to improve.
Zic-Fuchs and Djurkic are part of the Government and will implement
the programme it is based on, which is the programme of the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Matesa said.
Djurkic takes up his new office following the resignation of former
Agriculture Minister Zlatko Dominikovic, while Zic-Fuchs was
appointed new Science Minister after her predecessor Ivica
Kostovic was appointed the Croatian President's Chief-of-Staff.
