ZAGREB, Mar 6 (Hina) - An international conference on journalists' work rights and editorial freedom in the media was held in Zagreb on Friday and Saturday. The conference, organised by the Croatian Journalists' Trade Union, was
addressed by one of the heads of the International Federation of Journalists, Bjorn Marnsson of Finland. Finland said the basic conditions for editorial independence in the media were a good legislative, political, ethical, and professional basis, as well as a strong journalists' trade union to fight for good working conditions and good salaries. Addresses were also made by the presidents of journalists' trade unions of Slovenia and Hungary. The conference, among else, tackled experience in limited freedom of expression in Croatia, the passing of a media law meeting European standards, and auto-censorship problems.(hina) ha
