CROATIA'S FOREIGN TRADE DEFICIT AMOUNTS US226.1 MIL

ZAGREB, March 3 (Hina) - Croatia's foreign commodity exchange deficit in January 1999 amounted US$ 226.1 million, which is US$64 million less that in January 1998, the National Bureau for Statistics reported on Wednesday. In January 1999 Croatian imported goods of US$ 575.1 million, which is 5.2 percent less that in January 1998. Croatia's export climbed to US$349 million or 10.3 percent more. Mass consumption products, rising to US$117.4 million, were exported in January 1999, which is 8.1 percent more than in the same time last year. The greatest increase was achieved in the export of capital products by 83.3 percent, namely US$73.8 million. Croatia's export to the European Union countries increased to US$187.4 million by 15.9 percent in comparison with January 1998, while the import decreased by 15.7 percent to US$298.2 million. Slovenia imported goods valued US$36.9 million from Croatia, which is 9.7 percent more that last year, while Croatia imported goods valued US$46.3 million with an increase of 9.5 percent versus January last year.
