WORKING GROUP FOR ELECTION LEGISLATION FORMED

ZAGREB, March 2 (Hina) - Vladimir Seks, president of the Sabor's Committee for the Constitution, Rule Book and Political System, on Tuesday said that he had appointed a working group to prepare draft basic principles of election legislation for the election of MPs to both houses of the Croatian National Sabor. The group consists of lawyers and political experts who are dealing with election systems and law. The group should, on the principle of consensus, announce its results within two months, Seks said at today's session of the Committee. He also recalled the chronology of negotiations between the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Opposition parties concerning the drawing up of new election laws. An agreement on this matter has still not been reached, primarily - Seks said - because the Opposition demanded that the HDZ give up the special (Diaspora) list, and that the working group include, along with Opposition and HDZ representatives, also two minority representatives. However, the HDZ has proposed that the group include all parliamentary parties and that problems be solved one by one, without setting any conditions, Seks said. (hina) mm rml
