TRIESTE, Feb 22 (Hina) - The prefect of Istra, Croatia's western-most country, Stevo Zufic, and the president of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, a province in eastern Italy, Roberto Antonione, signed a protocol on cooperation in Trieste on
Monday. The two officials told reporters the protocol would contribute to better economic cooperation and transport connections. They in particular pointed to the protocol's Article 18, which focuses on the protection of minorities and clearly articulates the protection of the Italian minority in Istra and the Croatian ethnic community in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. Zufic and Antonione also said the two regions would, within their jurisdictions, care for the Italian and Croatian minorities and protect their rights to language, culture, and education.(hina) ha jn
