ILLEGAL ARMS DISCOVERED IN ZENICA PRISON

SARAJEVO, Feb 2 (Hina) - The International Police Task Force (IPTF) found out a great amount of illegal weaponry in the prison in the central Bosnian town of Zenica, a UN spokeswoman said in Sarajevo on Tuesday. The arms were subsequently confiscated by the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR), the spokeswoman Kelly Moore. On Monday, international policemen entered the Zenica prison to carry out a routine control of inmates and on this occasion they discovered different kinds of illegal arms, including weapons with long barrels. After the IPTF asked for assistance, SFOR seized the ordnance. The Sarajevo-based press reported on Monday that the SFOR and IPTF caused agitation among Zenica citizens after they had sealed off and checked the prison premises. The prison's director Jusuf Seta described the international raid as totally unnecessary. Since the signing of the Dayton agreement, IPTF members have occasionally been supervising all prisons in Bosnia-Herzegovina to find out whether there are illegally detained persons in them.
