ZAGREB, Jan 29 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic on
Friday received ambassadors of the European Union Troika and the
United States accredited in Croatia, as well as representatives of
the European Commission and the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe Mission to Croatia.
Granic handed the Croatian government's response to remarks
submitted in written form by representatives of the international
community in Croatia with regard to the situation in the media and
electoral legislation in Croatia.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Granic
emphasised the Croatian government was completing successfully the
problem of press distribution. With regard to electronic media, he
stressed the importance of enforcing the Law on Croatian Radio-
Television.
Speaking about electoral legislation, Minister Granic reminded of
a recent meeting Croatian President Franjo Tudjman held with
representatives of opposition parties. The meeting, Granic
stressed, was another step confirming Croatia's firm commitment to
creating mutual political acknowledgement and dialogue on the
political scene.
The Foreign Minister also pointed to the intensive activity and
endeavours of the Croatian government towards finding final
solutions to remaining open issues with neighbouring countries.
In this respect, Granic particularly singled out the work of a mixed
Croatian-Bosnian commission for borders.
Both Granic and the diplomatic corps pointed to the importance of
convening a meeting among representatives of Croatia, Bosnia, the
international community, and non-government organisations
towards finding a constructive solution for the border movement
regime, especially for humanitarian organisations.
The diplomatic corps thanked Granic for the papers he submitted,
and pointed out they would study it carefully and then resume
dialogue with the Croatian government.
German Ambassador Volker Haak emphasised the interest to resolve
all similar issues through dialogue.
He believed such an approach on both Croatia's and the
international community's part would create preconditions for a
positive step forward.
