ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Friday received credentials from the Danish Ambassador to Croatia, based in Budapest, Clalus Juul Nielsen. Tudjman said Croatia "not only defended Europe from the Ottoman
invasion, but had also contributed to European culture and civilisation, which makes the Croatian public wonder why in the present-day Europe there are ideas of certain circles that Croatia should be returned to Balkan frames, where it ended up only after World War I". He said Croatia, as a central European and Mediterranean country, was not interested in associations with Balkan neighbours, but advocated the establishment of normal good neighbourly relations with them. Ambassador Juul Nielsen said in performing his duties he would be led by efforts to promote cooperation between the two countries in European institutions in order to arrive at a new peaceful and integrated Europe.
