KOSOVO ALBANIAN LEADER CALLS FOR NATO INTERVENTION

PRISTINA, Jan 16 (Hina) - Kosovo Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova on Saturday evening vehemently condemned the recent Serbian massacre of Kosovo Albanians in the village of Recake, and called on NATO forces to immediately intervene in the conflict-ridden south Yugoslav province. Rugova believes only a forceful and resolute international intervention can put an end to the Serb military machinery and provide preconditions for a political solution to the Kosovo issue. The Friday massacre, in which 46 Kosovo Albanians were killed, was also condemned by the Presidency of the largest Kosovo Albanian Party, the Kosovo Democratic Alliance, which pointed out the massacre was another proof of the Yugoslav President's regime's unwillingness to implement any of the U.N. Security Council's resolutions on Kosovo. The chief political leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Adem Demaqi, warned the Belgrade regime's terrorism and systematic repression on Kosovo were endless. Demaqi said the KLA was the Albanians' only guarantee in Kosovo. He called on them to support and join the KLA, "as it is the only way we can oppose the fascist regime from Belgrade and ensure independence and freedom for the Albanian people in Kosovo." (hina) ha
