in Bosnia-Herzegovina will hand back weapons to the Croatian
National Council (HVO), seized on Saturday following a dispute
regarding the appointments and promotions of some HVO officers
within the Bosnian Federation Army, the AFP reported Wednesday.
The weapons will be handed back, SFOR spokeswoman Sheena Thompson
said in Sarajevo on Wednesday.
After today's meeting between the federal Defence Ministry and
SFOR, it was confirmed that appointments of officers to generals
should be agreed in advance with SFOR, a joint statement signed by
SFOR commander Montgomery Meigs and federal Defence Minister
Miroslav Prce said.
The SFOR began destroying HVO weapons on Sunday, following
Saturday's confiscation, in response to the appointments of
several generals of the HVO.
SFOR soldiers from Belgium and Luxembourg, supported by British
troops and US helicopters, seized two T-55 tanks, a T-54 armoured
personnel carrier, 28 rocket launchers and close to 2,500 light
