JELAVIC MUST REVOKE DECISION ON APPOINTMENT TILL SUNDAY MORNING- SFOR

SARAJEVO, Jan 9 (Hina) - A member of Bosnia-Herzegovina's three-man Presidency, Ante Jelavic, will have to revoke his decision till Sunday morning on the appointment of new generals to commanding posts in the Bosnian Federal Army, or the Nato-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) will begin destroying the arms it seized from the Croat Defence Council (HVO) this morning, SFOR spokeswoman Sheena Thomson told Hina in Sarajevo on Saturday. It is true that a 24-hour deadline was set for the revocation of the decision on the appointment of the HVO generals to the commanding posts in the federal military and it expires on Sunday morning, Thomson added. She said that tanks, armoured personnel carriers, canons, communications equipment and infantry weaponry had been seized during Saturday morning's action launched by the SFOR on two locations where the HVO units were situated. A small part of the arms will be certainly destroyed, but in case that the decision on appointments has not been withdrawn, we shall destroy all the confiscated weapons, she said. According to Thomson, the SFOR chief commander, General Meigs, has been in touch with Jelavic and his office since Thursday insisting on the full compliance with the determined procedure on how to appoint high-ranking officers to responsible posts in the armies of the Bosnian two entities.
