ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - "Charges against me are trumped-up according
to the well-established rules of the (Moslem) Party of the
Democratic Action (SDA) and its secret police 'AID', in order to
frighten the people and unable a political offensive of the
Democratic People's Community of Bosnia-Herzegovina (DNZ), Fikret
Abdic, the DNZ party President and a former Bosnian Presidency
member, told Croatian Television on Monday night.
The Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the Former
Yugoslavia (ICTY) has given its consent to Bosnian judicial bodies
to criminally pursue Abdic, a Bosnian official said on Monday.
Abdic told the Croatian TV political programme "Motrista" that he
had not been officially notified of legal proceedings against him.
The controversial politician from western Bosnia accused Bosnian
state officials of trying to prevent him from playing a significant
role in "improving the economic situation and progress in Bosnia-
Herzegovina" by involving the Hague Tribunal in his case.
"The AID (Agency for Information and Documents) is preparing all
indictments for the Hague Tribunal, and there is a chosen group
within the AID that is working on fabricating charges against me,"
Abdic told the Croatian TV.
He claimed that the AID consisted of Moslems who used to be in the
State Security Service of the former Yugoslavia and who were later
taken by the SDA for its secret police to prepare indictments for
the ICTY.
According to Monday's statement by the Bosnian official, Adamir
Jerkovic, the ICTY prosecutor concluded that the submitted
evidence indicated the existence of founded suspicion that Fikret
Abdic had seriously violated regulations of international law
through inhumane treatment of civilians and prisoners of war and
through forceful mobilisation (in western Bosnia). The evidence
against Abdic was submitted to the Hague Tribunal in line with rules
established at a Rome conference in 1996.
