ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - The Defence Ministry believes Lieutenant General Imra Agotic's statement that the Military Police and the Interior Ministry could be responsible for events which took place in the liberated areas following
operation Storm is extremely irresponsible, Defence Ministry's spokesman Dusan Viro said. Imra Agotic, presidential advisor on defence and military issues, said in an interview with Saturday's issue of the Vecernji List daily that the gravest crimes in Croatia's areas liberated by operation Storm had taken place after the entrance of the military police and civil police units in the area. It is absolutely inadmissible for such a highly positioned official, who is also an active member of the armed forces, to pronounce a judgement without an adequate procedure being carried out and facts established first, and transfer responsibility from one to the other part of units, Viro said.
ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - The Defence Ministry believes Lieutenant
General Imra Agotic's statement that the Military Police and the
Interior Ministry could be responsible for events which took place
in the liberated areas following operation Storm is extremely
irresponsible, Defence Ministry's spokesman Dusan Viro said.
Imra Agotic, presidential advisor on defence and military issues,
said in an interview with Saturday's issue of the Vecernji List
daily that the gravest crimes in Croatia's areas liberated by
operation Storm had taken place after the entrance of the military
police and civil police units in the area.
It is absolutely inadmissible for such a highly positioned
official, who is also an active member of the armed forces, to
pronounce a judgement without an adequate procedure being carried
out and facts established first, and transfer responsibility from
one to the other part of units, Viro said.
The Defence Ministry finds it worrying that current political
relations, as General Agotic sees them, concerning the topical
issues of jurisdiction between the Defence Ministry and the
Croatian Army Main Staff, are being transferred to the period of the
Homeland War, which is accompanied by attempts to allocate guilt in
line with the needs of daily politics. That is absolutely
inadmissible because, among else, it seriously hampers the
cooperation between Croatia and the Hague tribunal, Viro said.
The said statement, as well as many other statements from the
interview, are the continuation of General Agotic's political
activities, which is inappropriate for any active Croatian Army
member, the Defence Ministry claims.
