ZAGREB, Dec 21 (Hina) - The Government did not intimidate the
strikers and union accusations about intimidation are misplaced,
the Government's Public Relations Office said in a statement,
answering to a recent letter by Vilim Ribic, vice-president of the
Council of Croatian Public Service Workers Unions.
The Government did not request the heads of public institutions to
list strikers nor does it intend to punish them, reads the reply to
Ribic's letter in which the union leader accused the government of
making lists of workers who participated in the December 14/15
strike.
The government insisted on unobstructed operation of all public
services during the strike for the sake of citizens using those
services. The heads of public institutions were instructed to keep
their work records as usual and inform the ministries only about the
strikers turnout.
The government also estimated that union requests for a salary
increase are unreasonable given the current economic and social
situation. The public has realised this and the strike was
therefore only partially successful, the statement read.
