Devcic is the first Archbishop of Rijeka as on 25 July this year the
then Rijeka-Senj Archdiocese was divided into the Archdiocese of
Rijeka and the newly-established diocese of Gospic and Senj.
The ceremony of his instalment in the overcrowded Rijeka Cathedral
was led by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Msgr. Josip Bozanic, the
Croatian Bishops' Conference President.
Present at the ceremony were Catholic religious dignitaries from
neighbouring Slovenia, Italy and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
dignitaries of the Islamic community and the Serb Orthodox Church
in Croatia.
Local and high-ranking state officials also attended the event.
