Mesic wrote in a book of condolences opened at the Croatian parliament building. Gotovac, an eminent Croatian politician and writer, died at the age of 71 in Rome last Thursday. Gotovac's passing away leaves the Croatian parliament without a unique deputy, the Croatian political scene without a man who truly believed that honesty and politics can go hand in hand and our culture without a writer and man whom politics and political work prevented from being what he most wanted to be - a writer, Mesic wrote.
