During the Zagreb Summit, held on November 24, Croatia signed a
document on the beginning of negotiations on the Agreement. On that
occasion, Croatian senior officials announced negotiations could
end in about six months after which Croatian would formally request
to join the European Union.
The new round of negotiations on the succession will be held on
December 18 and 19. A Croatian delegation will be led by the head of
the Croatian government's office for the succession issues, Bozo
Marendic.
Representatives of all five successor countries are invited to
Brussels, namely Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia,
Macedonia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The meeting will
be held under the auspices of the mediator in the negotiations on
the succession to the former Yugoslavia, Arthur Watts.
On December 15, Brussels is to host the Partnership for Peace
Council, which includes all 19 NATO member-countries and 26
Partnership for Peace Countries. Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino
Picula will represent Croatia.
Immediately after Brussels, the Croatian Foreign Minister is to
visit Venice, where he is to attend a meeting of the European
Council's commission for democracy, so-called "Venice
