ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - The assessment of defence abilities of Croatia's armed forces was successfully completed on Tuesday, a representative of the US Department of Defense, Major General Joseph G. Garett, said after a meeting with
Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Tuesday. The project, which lasted slightly more than six months, is a joint US-Croatian programme. Its purpose was to analyse the current abilities of Croatia's armed forces with the aim of drawing up plans for the modernisation of the army for the next 10 years, said Garett. Croatian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Petar Stipetic, who also participated in the meeting, told reporters the Croatian side was satisfied with the US assessment. According to Stipetic, the US side has offered considerable assistance in the education of the Croatian army staff.
