Workers Unions has decided to organise a day-long strike of warning
on December 8, in line with results of a recent union referendum.
The unions will try to reach an agreement with the government on
Monday, December 4, and if their attempt fails, they will go on a
strike of warning with other public service unions next Friday.
At today's session of the Council, the president of the Croatian
Teachers' Union, Dalimir Kuba, was elected new president whereas
the former president Vilim Ribic was elected Kuba's deputy.
The unions will go on strike because the government has violated the
collective agreement on the adjustment of salaries of civil
servants with those in public and state companies, under which
their basic salaries should increase by 8.5 percent, Kuba said.
Instead of that, the government has announced a 10-percent decrease
in gross salaries in the public sector and refused the union request
for Christmas and child bonuses, he added.
