ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - The Association of Croatian Returnees (ZPH)
warned the Government Friday the economic situation in areas of
special government care was dramatic.
This is why returnees are again moving out of these areas, ZPH
president Josip Kompanovic told a news conference.
The Association is requesting an urgent meeting with vice-premier
Goran Granic to inform him about their increasingly difficult
position, as well as about communication between the Government and
returnees.
"If we d not meet the vice-premier in the next two weeks, we will
organise a protest rally to warn about our difficult situation," he
added.
Kompanovic warned that the social situation in areas of special
government care was increasingly difficult.
A proof of people moving out of the areas is the lesser number of
children enrolling in schools, and more people are unregistering
residence in these areas, he said.
The areas of special government care are areas of Croatia
especially destroyed during Croatia's war for independence.
Kompanovic expressed dissatisfaction with the fact the Government
was not completely applying the Law on Areas of Special Government
Care. Courts involved with suits between returnees and owners of
homes the returnees had been using are ruling large amounts of money
be paid by the returnees for the use of the premises. This is in
opposition to Article 14 of the Law, Kompanovic said.
The Association also presented its new web site, www.zph.hr, on
which returnees will have information about all activities of the
ZPH, which will soon initiate a web site in English.
